Decentralize Everything.

My personal opinion letter, artwork, and NFT.

Decentralize Everything.

Decentralize everything. Capitalism works the best if government doesn’t get in the way. Korea was separated by a war. The DMZ is a perfect dividing line. About 20 million people were on each side of the border, and almost no one crossed it. The north took on Socialism, Communism, Government control, Dictatorship. The south took on free market capitalism, free speech, democracy, open borders, freedom. The north had a government that “took care” of its people and told them what they should do. The south had a government that trusted them and set them free. A perfect experiment. 70 years have passed since the DMZ was created. What has happened to the people. Well, the average South Korean makes 460 times what the average North Korean makes in a year, and similar when adjusted for purchasing power. And here is the clincher. The average South Korean is now 4 inches taller than the average North Korean. Why? Centralized control doesn’t work. We should decentralize every aspect of our economy, our political system, and our lives.

one of these paintings will become an NFT. Guess Which?

Putin decided arbitrarily from his position of centralized control to attack Ukraine. The Russian people didn’t want it and it is not in their best interests to be at war, but the centralized controller decided to attack. Xi arbitrarily shut down Shanghai, believing that he knew better than all the people in the city, but in doing so, he shut down the entire supply chain of China and much of the supply chain for the world, not to mention how horribly the people in Shanghai have suffered as a result. The corporate structure, and the union structure are both designed to have centralized control, and that makes sense to some degree, but it doesn't make sense for Jeff Bezos to be telling the loading dock how to carry the boxes, (although he might communicate recommendations to keep their backs strong). Currently though, there has been so much envy displayed by people about how successful the great entrepreneurs have become. That is wrong headed. After all, without Amazon, I could never have been able to order a toothbrush or a vacuum cleaner and get it within four hours without leaving my home. Nevertheless, schadenfreude is a part of human nature. People get envious if not included in success. There is hope on the horizon. Decentralized Autonomous Organizations or DAOs, are vehicles that can reward anyone involved in the success of an organization. While corporations are for the good of the shareholders (usually the founder, the investors, and the employees), DAOs can reward the community in which the company started, the suppliers to the company, and the customers of the company. Wider sharing of success could lead away from schadenfreude and toward enthusiastic support for someone like Bezos, who has given us all so much to be grateful for. The bad news is that our US government regulators (specifically the SEC) are telling us that DAOs are illegal. They say that they violate some law that the regulators created 80 years ago. So all the DAOs are being moved out of the US to governments that are willing to allow them, and those countries are the ones that will be where the greatest innovations happen. Imagine if the US government had made the internet illegal early in its development. The US would have lost the four largest companies in the world to countries with more open minds. With decentralization (and freedom) comes trust. People can trust other people, and in my experience, people live up to the trust they are given. Tim Draper
